Constanca Basto

Constanca Basto was born in the city of Rio De Janero in Brazil. Growing up in Copacabana, an area of Rio she was taught the importance of fashion, art and personal style by her family, specially her mother and grandmother. Constanca's obsession with shoes began at the young age of fifteen. Upon visits to her mother's cobbler, Constanca began creating her own shoes. Using what materials she had at her disposal, she would turn her ideas into something tangible that the cobbler could bring to life. While out at parties, people began to notice the unique one of a kind style of her shoes and would often ask where they could find the shoes for themselves. She began by making shoes for her family and friends and then, with her husband who began a business selling at fashion fairs in Rio. In 1998 she proudly opened her first boutique located in ultra hip Ipanema, where her designs where immediately embraced by Rio's fashion elite. She then proceeded to open three more shops in Brazil within four years. After much success in her native Brazil, Constanca set her sights on New York. In December 2002 she unveiled her first boutique in the US located in the heart of Greenwich Village. Today her shoes can be found gracing the feet of numerous A-list celebrities and are often featured in major fashion publications. Constanca continues to make her mark on fashion in all corners of the globe. Her future shines like one of her glittering shoes.
